Vernon Forest Wilson, 67, should’ve called in sick to his side gig of armed residential burglary last Thursday morning. On September 7th, Vernon Forest Wilson’s attempted burglary couldn’t have gone much worse unless he would’ve ended the night in a body bag.
What happened During Vernon Forest Wilson’s attempt to burglarize a Home in Burlington, Nc?
During an attempted burglary which occured around 7 a.m. in the morning on September 7th. ( I’d like to point out the fact that only a 67 year old man would break into a home at 7 a.m. in the morning)
Vernon Forest Wilson approached a homeowner who was exiting his vehicle and walking towards his front door. Wilson showed the man he was armed with a handgun and tried to force his way into the home.
The two men fought for control of the front door of the residence. Wilson trying his best to gain entry into the man’s home. Luckily, the homeowner was able to slam the door, locking Vernon Forest Wilson outside. But not before Wilson fired a shot at the man, grazing his chest and not requiring medical attention. After winning control of the door the homeowner called the police and Wilson fled.
Vernon Forest Wilsons DNA is left at the Crime Scene!
When investigators from Burlington Police Department arrived at the crime scene, they found a black leather glove with a finger still inside, which obviously belonged to the suspect. The finger was apparently severed when the homeowner slammed the door to lock Wilson outside. Police were able to use the odd piece of evidence to track down and arrest Vernon Forest Wilson.
Vernon Forest Wilson was charged with,

- First-degree burglary
- Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury
- Possession of a firearm by a prohibited felon.
Wilson, one finger lighter, was transported to the Alamance County Jail under a $250,000 secured bond.
