Record Breaking Cucumber!

A gardener in Southampton has just been confirmed as the Guinness World Records holder for growing the longest cucumber in the world.

Sebastian Suski from Southampton has grown a gigantic cucumber, measuring 3 feet 8 inches long (1.12m).

If sliced up, the 17lb (7.7kg) fruit could make more than 400 cucumber sandwiches. Mr Suski said he was “really proud” to have beaten the previous record by more than two inches (5cm).

What’s Mr. Suski’s Cucumber Growing Secret?

The record-breaking cucumber was grown in a polytunnel on Mr Suski’s allotment where he also grows large water melon and butternut squash.

He said the secret of growing the supersize fruit is the selection of seed and the watering.

“The main tip, make sure you’ve got plenty of soil and keep watering correctly.”

Really Sebastian? Water? I’m sure there’s not another cucumber farmer in the world who’s ever watered their cucumber. Oh there’s more to the watering tip. Let’s see what it is…..

“I never, never use cold water – use warm water on your plants. I’m really proud of what I achieved. I cant believe this amazing result.”

Ok, maybe that’s a decent tip. Although, I’m positive somewhere out there is a farmer growing cucumbers, who has tried watering them with warm water and they didn’t grow a mutant sized cucumber.

Just come clean Mr. Suski, we all know you been watering those cucumbers with the same juice Mark McGwire and Lance Armstrong used. You may have fooled Guinness World Records but you can’t fool me sir.
