There’s no escaping it, the heatwave stretching across the United States is unbearable at times. However, the heat in lonestar state of Texas is simply getting out of hand with consecutive days above 100, or even 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
Splooting Squirrels!
Wild animals each have their own signature techniques for dealing with extreme heat. As it turns out, squirrels are no exception.
The squirrels unique way of cooling down when it heats up is called splooting.
WFAA-TV in Dallas, reported on July 21st, squirrels all over the city are taking to the streets, literally: lying facedown with their limbs spread out as far as possible.
The furry little indecisive rodents can’t sweat or pant, so splooting in the shade is a learned habit which helps them cool down.
One cute little guy was even spotted splooting on a sidewalk vent relaxing as the cool air blew on him from below.
You’ve probably seen your dog do a similar move at some point: Laying on their stomach, all fours sprawled across the floor. It’s simple. It’s relaxing. And it’s pretty cute, and it helps regulate their body temperature.
