How many Trees does it take….

It’s not easy to determine how many trees it takes to make an item.

Although we’re going with the best available statistics, determining how many trees are needed to make a particular item is difficult. Due to the difference in the size and shape of the trees, most mathematicians prefer to use the volume of wood in calculating how many of a certain item a tree can produce. Some factors could affect the mass of the wood thus changing the number of items produced.

One of the factors that can affect the mass of the wood is the drying which reduces its moisture content.According to engineering toolbox, when a piece of wood is dried and the moisture content reduces by 20%, the weight reduces by approximately 50%.

Another factor that affects the mass of the wood is the type of tree, as different trees produce wood of different mass. Taking these factors into consideration, calculating the number of items a tree can produce is exceptionally difficult.

So, keep in mind the numbers given here shouldn’t be considered exact and can fluctuate, these are extremely educated estimates. Now, after that little speed bump for clarity, on with the list.

When calculating how many trees it takes to build a house, we’ll consider an average mature fir or pine tree with a height of 80’ and a diameter of 2’.

• Each Mature tree needs 6 decades to reach 80′

• The average American home is 2600 square feet

• One mature tree has a lumber yield of about 754 board feet.

• 16,380 board feet are needed to frame the average home

• 22 mature trees will be needed to frame the average home
