A bar customer had 80% of her body burned, according to the police, after the bartender set fire to the victim’s body, which was soaked with alcohol gel. The case occurred on the 13th, in Cotia, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo.
At the time, Bruna Regina dos Santos Amador, 27, told military police that Juniele Rocha Silva Monteiro, 37, would have had an outbreak, during which she threw gel alcohol over her entire body. Then, according to Bruna’s account, the victim would have lit a cigarette “at the moment when her body burst into flames.”
Juniele is still hospitalized in serious condition at the Hospital das Clínicas (HC) in São Paulo with kidney failure and lung impairment, according to Metrópoles.
Three days later, Juniele’s sister handed police officers from the Carapicuíba Sectional Police Station a video taken by the bar’s surveillance camera, which changed the entire line of investigation of the case, until then treated as a suicide attempt.

The Video
The images show the victim apparently having an outburst as she pours the entire contents of a gallon of gel alcohol over her body. She dances and raises her arms, while being questioned by one of the suspects. Bruna pushes the victim a few times and lights a lighter, touching the victim’s body three times, but unable to spread the flames.
Then, Juniele is embraced by Bruna, while the clerk Francileide Gomes de Souza, 48, approaches, crouches, and sets fire to a small puddle of alcohol, which formed on the floor of the bar, after the victim was soaked with the substance moments before.
The fire spreads quickly, covering Juniele’s entire body in seconds, as well as Bruna’s feet, who manages to remove her pants. The video stops at this point.
The Fire
A Fire Department Rescue Unit attended to the victim at the scene. Due to the seriousness of her injuries, the Military Police helicopter Águia had to take her to the Hospital das Clínicas. The health unit said, on the morning of this Friday (1/20), that it was not authorized to update the woman’s health status.
Police
After having access to the video, the police asked the Justice for the precautionary arrest of Bruna and Francileide. A preventive arrest warrant, that is, for an indefinite period, was issued on the afternoon of this Thursday January 19th.
Bruna was arrested hours later and for now Francileide remains at large.. Both were indicted for attempted murder by the use of fire
